Sifu Jai Chan
I’m Sifu Jai Chan, Owner here at Wutian Martial Art.
As a martial arts instructor with extensive experience training kids, there is nothing better than seeing them grow firsthand.
But more important than the martial arts skills they learn… is the personal skills they develop and carry for life.
Because martial arts is so much more than just kicking and punching, and getting the next colorful belt.
It’s about developing confidence, discipline, character, focus and respect.
With every class we teach, your kids are growing in mind, body and character.
That’s because martial arts provides instant positive feedback. Through learning to focus on the core moves, they develop discipline and respect. They can instantly see and feel a difference, making them destined to build confidence, self-awareness and self-respect.
And of course it’s a ton of FUN!
That’s why I love teaching martial arts to kids in this community, and why I know your kids are going to LOVE training.
So please have a look below to find out exactly how your kids can benefit from our fun martial arts classes.
Thanks!
Two Martial Arts. Two Opportunities to Earn Belts.
Why learn just one martial art when your child can develop skills in two?
At Wutian, children have the opportunity to train, progress and earn belts in both Kickboxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ).
Each martial art has its own techniques, challenges and grading pathway, giving children more opportunities to learn, improve and celebrate their achievements.
Confidence, Fitness and Striking Skills
Our Kickboxing programme develops striking techniques, coordination, speed, agility, discipline and physical fitness.
As children progress, they develop more advanced techniques, combinations, defensive skills and controlled sparring abilities.
Grappling, Strategy and Problem-Solving
BJJ teaches children how to control situations through positioning, balance, escapes, leverage and grappling techniques.
It encourages children to think strategically, stay calm under pressure and solve problems rather than rely on physical strength alone.
Awareness, Confidence and Personal Safety
Self-defence is an important part of our martial arts education.
Children learn how to recognise potential dangers, set boundaries, avoid confrontation and protect themselves appropriately.
As students reach higher belt levels, they are introduced to more advanced self-defence scenarios, including learning how to respond when confronted by multiple aggressors — sometimes three or more.
These controlled exercises focus on awareness, movement, maintaining distance, creating opportunities to escape and reaching safety.
More Than Martial Arts
At Wutian Martial Art, we believe in developing champions both on and off the mats. From earning belts and competing for medals to building confidence, character and leadership, every achievement is part of a child’s journey.
At our award-winning martial arts school, the Junior Warriors programme combines high-quality Kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) and practical self-defence with character development, anti-bullying education and real opportunities to develop leadership skills.
Whether your child is a complete beginner, needs help building confidence, wants to develop strong character and leadership skills, or dreams of becoming a martial arts champion, we provide a supportive environment where every child can grow, achieve and discover their full potential.
An Award-Winning Martial Arts School
Wutian is proud to have received recognition in 2025 and 2026 for our excellence in martial arts, innovative children’s programmes and positive contribution to the local community.
Our achievements include awards and recognition for martial arts excellence, community impact and innovative children’s programmes.
These achievements reflect our commitment to providing more than martial arts lessons. We aim to create an environment where children develop confidence, respect, resilience and valuable life skills that benefit them throughout their lives.
From First Belt to Competition Medals
We believe every child deserves the opportunity to experience achievement.
For some, that means earning their very first belt. For others, it means progressing through two martial arts grading systems, mastering advanced techniques or stepping onto the competition mats.
Our Wutian students have participated in both Kickboxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitions, putting their training, discipline and determination into practice.
We support children who wish to pursue competitive martial arts through progressive training, sparring development and competition preparation.
However, competition is always a choice, not a requirement.
Whether your child dreams of competing for medals or simply wants to become stronger, more confident, more disciplined and develop good character, we celebrate every step of their individual journey.
At Wutian, we believe that true achievement is not measured only by belts and medals, but also by the respect, resilience, determination and character children develop along the way.
Our 30 Manners Life Skills Programme
At Wutian, becoming a better martial artist also means becoming a better person.
Alongside martial arts training, our dedicated 30 Manners Life Skills Programme helps children develop important values, positive habits and everyday behaviours that support them at school, at home and in their communities.
Children learn about:
- Respect and good manners: Treating parents, teachers, classmates and others with kindness and consideration.
- Confidence and communication: Expressing themselves clearly, speaking up appropriately and developing the courage to try new things.
- Discipline and responsibility: Understanding expectations, managing behaviour and taking ownership of their actions.
- Resilience and perseverance: Learning to overcome setbacks, accept mistakes and keep working towards goals.
- Kindness and empathy: Understanding other people’s feelings, helping others and building positive friendships.
- Leadership and teamwork: Learning to support, encourage and guide others while setting a positive example.
These lessons are integrated into our martial arts education, encouraging children to practise what they learn beyond the training mats.
We want children to understand not just what good manners are, but why they matter and how to demonstrate them in everyday life.
A good martial artist knows how to defend themselves. A great martial artist also knows when not to fight, how to show respect and how to help others.
Helping Children Deal With Bullying
Every child deserves to feel safe, respected and confident at school.
Bullying can affect a child’s self-esteem, friendships and emotional wellbeing. At Wutian, we take these challenges seriously.
Through martial arts, self-defence and life skills education, we help children develop practical strategies to recognise bullying, respond assertively, manage difficult situations and seek support when needed.
We teach children how to:
- Recognise bullying and understand the difference between bullying and everyday disagreements.
- Communicate confidently and set personal boundaries.
- Stay calm and make sensible decisions under pressure.
- Seek help from teachers, parents and trusted adults.
- Use awareness and self-defence skills to protect themselves when necessary.
We emphasise that physical techniques should be a last resort and that avoiding confrontation and seeking safety are always priorities.
Our goal is to help children develop the confidence to stand up for themselves, the kindness to support others and the judgement to know when to ask for help.
Real Experience. Real Responsibility. Valuable Skills for the Future.
Unlike simply attending an extracurricular activity, our leadership pathway gives suitable students opportunities to develop practical experience in mentoring, public speaking, teaching, teamwork, organisation and responsibility.
As they grow older, these experiences can become valuable achievements to include in school applications, personal statements, CVs and future interviews.
Students who demonstrate consistent commitment and make meaningful contributions to the school may also be eligible to request a reference from Wutian recognising their responsibilities, achievements and leadership experience.
We believe that helping a younger child learn a new skill, confidently speaking in front of a group or taking responsibility for a class are achievements worth celebrating.
At Wutian, the skills children develop today can become the opportunities they create for themselves tomorrow.

FAQS
Yes. Self-control is essential to the study of martial arts, and our students learn that they must be the masters of their actions and emotions.

No. Martial arts has its roots in self-defence, but we teach children that violence is not the answer to their problems.

From Student to Young Leader
At Wutian, children don't just learn from leaders. They have the opportunity to become leaders themselves.
One of the most meaningful parts of our programme is our structured pathway from martial arts student to Junior Leader and, eventually, potential Assistant Instructor.
Children who begin their martial arts journey as young as four may, by around nine or ten years old, have developed the skills, confidence and maturity to begin taking on leadership responsibilities.
Beginning the Leadership Journey
At approximately Green-Black Belt level, suitable students may be invited to take their first steps towards becoming young leaders.
They can begin learning how to:
- Demonstrate martial arts techniques to younger students.
- Help instructors teach Little Ninjas and beginner classes.
- Assist with hallway supervision, organisation and maintaining a safe, orderly environment.
- Attend leadership meetings, share ideas and learn how decisions are made.
- Take responsibility for assigned tasks and support the smooth running of classes.
- Encourage younger children and become positive role models.
Through leadership meetings, mentoring younger students and assisting with classes, children develop confidence in public speaking, communication and expressing their ideas. These valuable experiences can help prepare them for school presentations, interviews and future leadership opportunities.
All responsibilities are age-appropriate and carried out under adult supervision.
Developing Future Instructors
As students progress towards Brown Belt, those who demonstrate strong technical ability, maturity and commitment can take on greater leadership challenges.
They may learn how to plan lessons, explain techniques clearly, manage groups, lead class activities and deliver increasingly substantial parts of a lesson under qualified instructor supervision.
Students who demonstrate the required teaching ability may also have opportunities to progress towards paid assistant instructor positions when they meet the applicable age, safeguarding and employment requirements.
Skills That Last Beyond the Training Mats
Our goal is for children to take what they learn at Wutian into every part of their lives.
Whether they’re speaking confidently at school, taking responsibility at home, helping a younger student, overcoming disappointment or preparing for a competition, we want them to feel capable of facing new challenges.
Some students may become competitive martial artists and win medals. Others may become future instructors or leaders within their communities.
Every child has their own journey, and we are here to help them achieve their potential.
At Wutian, we don’t just develop stronger martial artists. We help develop stronger, kinder, more confident and more capable young people.
Give them the opportunity to learn two martial arts, earn belts in both disciplines, develop essential life skills, build confidence, discover their leadership potential and become part of a supportive martial arts community.
